Mt Alexander is further proving itself to not be such an impregnable fortress based on St George Mining’s latest drilling campaign.

Assay results have confirmed St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) has intersected more lithium mineralisation at its Jailbreak prospect, part of its Mt Alexander Project in WA.

It’s found lithium with peak values of 1.77% and 1.47% Li2O together with anomalous caesium, tantalum and tin values in mineralised intercepts up to 16m thick.

Jailbreak remains open at depth and along strike of current drilling, along an interpreted LCT corridor which extends towards Delta Lithium’s high-grade deposits at Mt Ida.

Assays from a whopping 851 samples from RC and diamond drilling are pending, so stay tuned. Amongst the pending assays are those for the 121m thick pegmatite intersected at the Manta Prospect.

SGQ MD John Prineas said the assays they’ve received to-date demonstrate they’ve got lithium-bearing pegmatites that commence from or near the surface down to a max of 300m along strike.

“High grades have been observed, highlighting the potential of the pegmatite system that remains open at depth and along strike of the prospective horizon,” Prineas commented.

“The recent drilling has significantly increased the understanding of the distribution of pegmatites and lithium mineralisation along the prospective LCT corridor that is situated within St George’s tenure.

“A follow-up drill programme will be planned once all drill results are received and interpreted with a focus likely to be the ultramafic sequence where the highest lithium values have been intersected so far.”

Mt Alexander is part of the Mt Ida lithium province and has a number of interested parties in the region, including the prolific WA miner Hancock Prospecting – which is looking at the potential of its Mt Bevan Project adjacent to Mt Alexander – and emerging lithium producer Delta Lithium down the road.

Other projects

A maiden, 3,000m RC drilling program at its Ajana copper-nickel project is due to commence before the end of June to test high priority targets within an interpreted layered mafic intrusion.

Additionally, the explorer is evaluating the site at its Woolgangie project, with on-ground exploration including soil sampling, EM surveys and a maiden AC drill program planned for Q3 to test lithium, copper and REE anomalies.
