First results are in from American West Metals’ drilling at its Storm copper project and they’re getting excited by the drill results of the seventeen-hole drilling program so far.

Assay results are in from the first hole drilled at American West Metals’(ASX:AW1) Storm copper project in Nunavut, Canada and they have exceeded initial analysis.

After reassessment, Hole SR23-01 has confirmed 28.9m of high-grade copper mineralisation showing:

  • 15.2m @ 1.2% Cu, including 4.6m @ 2.8% Cu from 54.9m
  • 7.6m @ 1.2% Cu, including 3.1m @ 2.4% Cu from 79.3m
  • 6.1m @ 1.1% Cu, including 3.1m @ 1.4% Cu from 120.4m

The hole was drilled to a downhole depth of 137.2m and forms part of a program designed to determine resource potential of the near-surface 4100N Zone.

The company is awaiting the assays for the remaining 8 RC drill holes that have all visually intersected thick intervals of strong copper sulphides and defined strong near-surface copper mineralisation across 850m by 300m, remaining open along strike.

American West Metals MD Dave O’Neill believes that while they have only received the assays for the first drill hole of the current program, the results have validated and exceeded initial visual estimates.

“This is a fantastic outcome and gives us confidence in our geological interpretations and assumptions on continuity of the mineralised zones,” O’Neill said.

“Drilling at Storm continues to highlight the potential significant scale of mineralisation with every drill hole to date intersecting thick intervals of visual copper sulphides.

The growing scale is very encouraging as we work towards a maiden resource estimate.”

Crews have now completed the 4100N, 2750N West and Tempest Prospect surveys.

“The data for these surveys is being processing with interpretation to follow,” O’Neill said.

“Given the pace of the exploration program, investors can look forward to further updates on the results as the data becomes available.”

What’s next?

As drilling at the 4100N Zone continues, more drill holes have been added to the program to follow up encouraging areas and expand the mineralised footprint of the project.

Results from the drill samples are expected within four to five weeks.

This will then be followed by resource defining drilling at the 2200N and 2750N zones, where exploration work last year intersected high-grade copper sulphides close to surface, including 41m @ 4.18% Cu from 38m downhole at ST22-05.

Ore sorting and beneficiation testwork for a potential direct shipping ore (DSO) operation is continuing, while environmental surveys will begin in Q3 this year.
