NickelSearch is eagerly awaiting assays after identifying sulphides in several holes from a completed 1357m reverse circulation drill program.

NickelSearch (ASX:NIS) is aiming to build on a 171,000t resource base across the Carlingup project on WA’s south coast, where it also plans to systematically test more than 30 targets with little to no historical exploration.

The ten holes drilled by contractor Strike Drilling focused on geochemical and geophysical anomalies at three high priority target areas known as Sexton, Javelin and RAV8 South, with massive and matrix pyrrhotite-pyrite logged in several Sexton holes.

Sexton is a particularly interesting target, given an historic intercept of 2m at 1.2% nickel and 0.17% copper from 98m, with three of the four holes in the current drilling intersecting nickel-bearing sulphides at the target horizon.

They included 6m of massive and matrix sulphides from 149m in hole 23NRC012. Assays are now pending.

It has elevated Sexton as a target, with NIS managing director Nicole Duncan stating, Arnie-like, “we will definitely be back”.

“We are excited to build upon the known mineralisation at Sexton. We are eagerly awaiting assay results,” she said.

“Visual logging has confirmed mineralisation in three holes at Sexton, with a six-metre interval in 23NRC012 showing similarities to historic hole RVD01015, which achieved 2.2 m at 1.2 % Ni and 0.17% Cu from 98.1 m.

“Further drilling will be dependent upon assay results, but we will definitely be back at Sexton to continue to test along strike.“We will continue to target RAV8, which produced 16,100t of nickel at 3.45% Ni (including 9,600t of nickel at 5.83% Ni). We know the geology can hold exceptional high-grade nickel massive sulphides.”

Sexton now extends to 150m and is interpreted to be open for more mineralisation, which appears to plunge shallowly to the east-southeast, a common occurrence along the Carlingup South trend and consistent with the position of the historic drill intersection and soil anomalies.

Javelin and RAV8 South

Outside of Sexton, drilling was also completed at Javelin, where five holes were drilled to follow up on down-hole electromagnetic conductors from drilling in October as well as broader geochemical anomalism in the area, and RAV8 South.  At Javelin, the drilling intersected massive sulphides of pyrrhotite and pyrite, but with little nickel detected.

At RAV8 South, near the historic RAV8 pit, hole 23NRC014 intersected “significant ultramafic rock”, including weak sulphide mineralisation at about 145m which may achieve low grade mineralisation.

It later passed into komatiitic basalt at 156m and massive and matrix sulphide associated with chert, a sedimentary rock, from 181-188m, with assays pending.

A larger drill program is being planned for RAV8 to follow up historical soil sampling completed before mining began.

When are assays due?

Down-hole electromagnetic surveys have been completed on all targets to define, refine and prioritise them for follow up drilling in the next quarter.

Meanwhile, assays are expected to be received from the labs in early March.

NickelSearch says targets arising at Sexton from the impending drilling results – and historical ultrafine soil surveys correlating with TMI geophysics targets – remain a high priority.

It expects approval for drilling will be granted shortly over the greenfield Wadley and Lipple prospects, currently undergoing a detailed review ahead of likely drill testing in the next quarter.
