Durham’s 40-year career includes helping discover and operate some of the largest gold projects in Canada.

In a news release Phoenix Gold Resources (TSXV: PXA)(OTCPK: PGRCF) announced that it had appointed Bruce Durham, a mining industry veteran, and professional geologist, as the company’s new Executive Chairman. Durham brings to Phoenix Gold a career spanning over four decades, helping discover and operate multiple profitable gold discoveries throughout his tenure.

Durham is a Professional Geologist (P.Geo), who earned a BSc. Geology from the University of Western Ontario and graduated in 1976. Since then, he’s worked for a variety of companies in the junior mining industry, mostly involving mining projects located in Ontario or Quebec.

Some of his biggest accomplishments include his involvement in the Hemlo gold discoveries, which at the time was one of Canada’s largest gold discoveries.

Durham brings credibility to Phoenix’s pursuit of the York Harbour VMS deposit in Newfoundland.

Bruce Durham’s past accolades include co-discovering the Bell Creek mine in Timmins, now owned by Pan American Silver. He later went on to Hemlo, where he was involved in exploring and developing two of the three major gold discoveries in that area, David Bell and Golden Giant. The Hemlo gold camp has since produced over 22 million ounces of gold and remains one of the most important discoveries for the Canadian mining industry.

Between 1998 and 2007, Durham held management positions with multiple mining companies, like Canadian Royalties, where he was President and Vice President of Exploration. Other work experience includes serving as the President and CEO of Nevada Zinc Corp, Executive Chairman of Rockecliff Metals, and COO of Norvista Capital. Durham has also served as VP of Exploration for BTU Metals as well.

Phoenix Gold’s management team

Besides Durham, Phoenix Gold’s current management team includes CEO and Director Andrew Lee, a 15-year veteran in the junior mining industry. Lee has been a director since 2014 and was appointed CEO of Phoenix Gold Resources in 2020.

Other team members include Directors Roger Baer and Walter Davidson, both of whom have 30 and 16 years of mining industry experience, respectively.

Phoenix Gold’s current flagship project is the York Harbour site in Newfoundland, a Volcanic Massive Sulfide (VMS) deposit with copper, cobalt, zinc, and silver grades. The company also is operating in Battle Mountain, Nevada, with a gold site just 5km from another gold project owned by Newmont and Barrick Gold.
