CALGARY – BluEarth Renewables US LLC announced it has acquired the Eads Wind and Solar Project in Kiowa and Cheyenne Counties, Colorado from NorthRenew Energy LLC. The Project is expected to be completed in multiple phases totaling approximately 1 GW of new wind and solar generation that will bring significant economic benefit to the local community and State of Colorado.
This is the second transaction in 2022 between BluEarth and NorthRenew, an experienced US renewable and sustainable project developer. The acquisition complements BluEarth’s existing development portfolio of over 1 GW of advanced development utility-scale wind projects in Canada and the U.S., and over 3 GW of early-stage development projects.
“We look forward to entering the Colorado market with this Project, which fits very well with our full life-cycle approach, taking projects from development to operations,” said Grant Arnold, President and CEO of BluEarth. “The team at NorthRenew has been excellent to work with and has a long track record of successful developments. We are pleased to complete another transaction with them.”
BluEarth believes the Project will be an important component of Colorado’s 2030 emissions reduction strategy, and it looks forward to supporting the state’s efforts to further decarbonize its electricity grid.
“This latest transaction demonstrates our overall confidence in BluEarth’s ability to complete the Eads project in which they bring substantial development and operational expertise,” said Garth Klimchuk, Managing Partner of NorthRenew. “We look forward to working closely with them on this, Buffalo Branch and many more projects over the next several years.”
BluEarth Renewables is an independent, power producer that acquires, develops, builds, owns and operates wind, hydro and solar facilities across North America. Their portfolio includes 673 MWAC (gross) in operation and under construction, 800 MWAC (gross) of projects with power purchase agreements or offtake under negotiation, and executed rights to more than 3 GW of future development projects.
NorthRenew Energy is a renewable energy development company focused on originating and developing wind, solar and energy storage projects throughout the United States. The NorthRenew team has over 200 years of collective experience in the U.S. power sector covering all aspects of project development and construction and having been involved in the development of over 5,000 MW of renewable generation capacity. NorthRenew is currently developing a portfolio of wind, solar and storage projects throughout Idaho, Colorado, Missouri, Texas and other U.S. states, representing over 2 GW of potential generation capacity.
