Iberdrola Australia has agreed to supply all of Woolworths Group’s operations in South Australia with 100% renewable electricity.

The agreement, in place until 31 December 2030, will ensure retail group Woolworths’ almost 70 supermarkets, 17 Big W stores and regional distribution centres in South Australia are powered by green energy.

The electricity will be supplied from Iberdrola Australia’s newly built Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park.

According to Iberdrola Australia, Woolworths Group represents about one per cent of the country’s total energy use and therefore plans to replace traditional energy contracts with greener agreements over the next three years, ultimately being 100% renewable-powered by 2025.

Iberdrola Australia CEO and managing director, Ross Rolfe, AO said: “We are delighted to be supporting Woolworths Group in their sustainability journey by providing their retail stores in South Australia with 100% green energy.
