A maiden aircore first pass drilling program at Lanthanein Resources (ASX:LNR) Koolya Project in Western Australia has wrapped up after completing 599m of drilling and returning ‘exceptional’ visual results.

LNR’s Technical director Brian Thomas says the results highlight a significant real extent of high-quality bright white kaolin at the project.

High purity kaolin is of rising importance as a critical mineral due to the processing into high purity alumina (HPA), which is being used in Li-ion batteries, LED lighting, semiconductors, and sapphire glass.

Halloysite, on the other hand, can be used in nano technologies for a range of industry applications including carbon sequestration, agriculture, energy, and health.

“Samples will be sent for dual analysis for rare earths and to identify if the mineral – halloysite – is present,” Thomas explains.

“Exploring for critical minerals is of paramount importance for our company as we aim to find the future facing minerals used in the global clean energy transition.”

What’s next?

The recent drilling program covered 25km of prospective kaolin rich granite and intersected widespread kaolin of varying thickness.

Analysis will now take place on the samples to quantify the specific characteristics such as ISO brightness, alumina content, and the presence of halloysite and rare earths.

Further infill and step-out drilling will then be completed to assist with a mineral resource estimate for the second half of 2023.
