Rockland Resources (CSE: RKL) this morning indicated that it has already expanded upon a recently acquired property in Utah. The property, referred to as the Lithium Butte property, is now close to nine times bigger than what was originally staked.

In total, Rockland has acquired an additional 464 lode claims for the property, which is found in Juab County, Utah. When combined with the initial 60 claims acquired for the property, the land mass associated with the project has jumped from 1,200 acres to that of 10,670 acres.

“Although this project is at an early stage, we are extremely pleased with the results to date and the progress that we are making at Lithium Butte. Rockland has been an early mover in the Utah Basin and Range Province for claystone lithium exploration and we have assembled an exciting property package. Our early stage sampling has returned significant lithium assays and Lithium Butte has many of the hallmarks of successful lithium claystone projects,” said company president Richard Sutcliffe.

A soil sampling program is currently underway on the property, as a means of following up on a grab sample reported on at the end of June which assayed at 4,080 ppm lithium. Five samples in total were collected under that program, with the samples averaging 2,142 ppm lithium. Channel sampling is also to take place at the location where grab samples were taken.

A total of 995 soil samples are to be taken across the property under the program, with samples taken at 150 metre intervals on lines spaced at 300 metres. Results from the soil sampling program are expected in the fall, and are expected to generate targets for drilling.

The claims staked are wholly owned by the company, but are subjected to a 1.5% NSR to an arms-length third party.

Rockland Resources last traded at $0.115 on the TSX Venture.
