Taiwan’s Formosa 2 offshore wind farm has successfully transmitted power to the grid after major construction milestones were reached.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the team has completed the installation of 12 wind turbines and submitted power to the grid.

Once the 376MW wind farm is fully operational, it will supply over 380,000 homes with clean power.

Michael Klingele, Formosa 2 project director, said in a statement: “Despite facing challenges posted by recent weather conditions the team persisted in advancing construction works, with strong health, safety and environmental performance and high sustainability standards.

“We are fully committed to ensuring the project becomes a pivotal driver in Taiwan’s green energy transition.”

The project team has installed more than half of the underwater foundations and more than a quarter of the turbines have been installed.

The installation of jacket foundations and subsea cables began in April and May respectively.

The project is being developed by Japanese energy company JERA, Macquarie’s Green Investment Group and Swancor Renewable Energy.
