With all approvals in place, Classic is pressing ahead with work aimed at bringing its Kat Gap gold project in Western Australia into production.

The company has engaged Resource Engineering Consultants, who have a modern approach to design and management waste and water, to design, engineer and deliver the key Tailings Storage Facility for the project.

Earthworks for the TSF have begun with its boundaries demarcated and the topsoil pushed back.

Classic Minerals (ASX:CLZ) is also reassembling the Gekko treatment plant, which will be ready for commissioning in mid to late February.

Process water for the plant is being plumbed into the first production water bore just over 1km away adjacent to the main access haul road.

Water will be pumped into large storage tanks located next to the Gekko treatment plant.

Kat Gap

Kat Gap currently has an Inferred resource of 975,722t grading 2.96g/t gold, or 92,856oz of contained gold with a bulk sample of about 6,500t of ore grading 6g/t gold ready to be processed once the Gekko plant has been reassembled.

Operating costs are expected to be low due to the low base metal content of the ore, which results in a very low reagent consumption.

The company also has the ability to beneficiate low grade ores to reject uneconomic waste materials and minimise cost per tonne processed.

Additionally, the high gold recovery at a relatively coarse grind size also reduces energy requirements which minimises greenhouse gases and operating costs.
